Let's be honest, haven't we all been there? You crawl into bed, exhausted from the day, yearning for rest. But instead of sleep, a parade of worries starts marching through your mind. Work deadlines, difficult decisions, concerns about loved ones – it feels like the anxieties of the day just won't let go.
Well, take a deep breath, because you're not alone. Millions of us struggle to find peace amidst the daily pressures. But what if there was a simple way to release those anxieties and drift off to sleep feeling truly cared for?
Introducing Release Prayer: RMT With a Personalized Twist
I've found a powerful tool that helps me quiet the chatter and settle into a peaceful slumber – Release Prayer. It's a variation of the Release Meditation Technique (RMT), a practice I discovered from Brendon Burchard.
Here's the gist of RMT: close your eyes, sit or lie down comfortably, take deep breaths, and simply repeat the word "release" to yourself. It's a mantra that helps melt away physical and mental tension, allowing thoughts to pass by without clinging to them. It brings you back to a calm and centered state.
Release Prayer: Surrendering Your Worries to God
Release Prayer takes RMT a step further by incorporating faith. As I breathe deeply and visualize myself releasing each worry, I imagine handing them over to God, one by one, as quickly as they pop up. It's like unloading a heavy backpack, thought by thought.
For example, if I'm about to unwind before bed, anxieties about work projects, upcoming decisions, or loved ones facing challenges might surface. With each thought, I picture myself placing it into God's hands, sometimes even opening my palms upwards to solidify the feeling of surrender.
This concept isn't new. In 1 Peter 5:5-7, the Bible reminds us: "And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. And God will exalt you in due time, if you humble yourselves under his mighty hand by casting all your cares on him because he cares for you."
Release Prayer: A Week-Long Experiment for Peace
Release Prayer is simply the act of casting all your worries onto Him, with the comforting knowledge that He truly cares for you. Especially as you drift off to sleep, entering a more vulnerable state, it's a powerful reminder that you're not alone in this journey.
So here's my challenge to you: try Release Prayer every night before bed for a week. See how you feel. It might just do wonders for your mind and body. Remember, each night as you surrender your worries, you're also surrendering to the knowledge that God is with you, and a calmer tomorrow awaits.
Journal Prompt: Reflect on Release
After trying Release Prayer for a night or two, jot down your experience. Did worries linger, or did you find a sense of calm? What thoughts or feelings came up during the prayer?
